Fascinating stuff! Thank you. Regarding the skull and crossbones: I seem to recall that the Essenes at Qumran were buried in graves marked with the skull and crossbones. If so, the practice goes back to them at least.

About the burial sites and rituals, I don’t know if it’s true though recently I’ve been told that not only they were buried fetal position, but, depending on being male or female, on their left or right side. I would love to get to know more about this kind of articles. Thanks!

Great stuff! Do you think Neanderthal culture relates to the cult of the mother goddess or venus figurines?

I ask because continuity from Venus to modern culture is the subject of my 'stack, so I also explore many of the same themes of death and rebirth, caves as temples, and the invention/discovery of symbolic thought, including music. https://www.vectorsofmind.com/p/eve-theory-of-consciousness-v3

Great overview thank you - this is such a big subject to speculate and find meaning - when it comes to the idea of ‘transcending mortality’ I’m not convinced that ancient peoples thought like this - it seems like such a modern concept - rather for me, I see the ancients as simply understanding on some deeper instinctual level that ‘death’ is an illusion and ‘soul’ or whatever their equivalent was is a constant - the whole nature cycle circling around I think was just like some sort of gnosis to them… just thoughts.
